Description
About Innovia
Innovia Technology has an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student with a background in Behavioural Science to join our 10-12 week paid Summer Internship programme 2025 to apply their skills to innovation consultancy and work on varied and creative projects alongside engineers, designers, physicists, life scientists, chemists, business strategists, and behavioural scientists at our Cambridge UK offices.
Innovia Technology specialises in ‘front end innovation’ - which means we create and work on the very start of breakthrough ideas and discoveries. For 3 months, you’ll join our holistic project teams who are collaborating to solve multifaceted challenges or invent something new for our clients who are global industry leaders in their fields.
What you'll get
You’ll get a crash course in quickly applying what you’ve learned in an academic setting to unfamiliar real-world situations, extracting what’s useful, and synthesising information from many sources. You’ll learn about topics you've never explored before and solve complex technical problems within industries from food and drink to energy, cosmetics, manufacturing, consumer goods, health or medicines.
Working closely with other specialists whose background may be in organic chemistry, public health, theoretical physics, chemical engineering or veterinary medicine, you'll get an opportunity to greatly expand your thinking, gain insights into various specialisms and see how they interconnect in a holistic project setting. We'll offer you a training to make it easier to bridge the gap between studying and working as a Summer Intern.
Responsibilities
As a Summer Intern, you will spend most of your time working on innovation challenges faced by our clients. You’ll typically work on 2-3 projects at once, and the nature of these projects can be remarkably varied, but here is a list of key activities you will likely be performing:
- Bringing your technical skills and creativity to innovation challenges
- Collaborating closely with colleagues from different fields to solve broad and complex problems
- Conducting desk-based research (e.g., literature reviews) and primary research (qualitative and quantitative)
- Creating new ideas, insights, and models, and transferring this thinking between different applications and industries
- Challenging conventional thinking and industry-specific assumptions
- Helping to structure and create presentations for colleagues and clients
- Applying your broad behavioural science knowledge to our diverse innovation projects, advising on applicable theories, principles, and evidence
- Recommending research design methods and techniques for our work programmes
- Learning from experienced behavioural scientists and multidisciplinary colleagues

- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the fundamental principles of Behavioural Science, and the ability to apply them to unfamiliar problems.
- Are keen to work in a dynamic commercial and client focussed environment.
- Have a strong interest in collaborative teamwork and have good communication skills.
- Are comfortable giving your considered opinion on complex questions, and taking part in lively discussions.
